Tatkal Waiting List Cancellation Charges refer to the fees that passengers have to pay when canceling their tickets under the Tatkal quota with a waiting list status. The Tatkal scheme allows passengers to book tickets at short notice, but there are limited seats available.

In case a passenger’s ticket remains on the waiting list even after the chart preparation, they have the option to cancel it. However, a cancellation charge is applicable. These charges vary depending on the class of travel and the time of cancellation.

The Tatkal ticketing window opens 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the train, allowing passengers to book tickets for immediate travel. However, passengers often encounter different booking statuses such as waitlist, RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation), or not obtaining desired berths when opting for Tatkal tickets.

In certain emergency situations, passengers who have already booked Tatkal tickets may need to cancel their travel plans. This could be due to unforeseen circumstances or changes in their itinerary. In such cases, passengers have the option to cancel their Tatkal tickets, although cancellation charges may apply depending on the time of cancellation and the class of travel.

Tatkal Waiting List Cancellation Charges and Refund Rules

The Indian Railways allows refunds for unused and partially used tickets upon cancellation, with applicable cancellation charges deducted. Passengers can claim refunds for such tickets, but it is important to note that the ticket must be surrendered within a specified time frame in relation to the scheduled or actual departure time of the train.

The amount or percentage of fare deducted as cancellation charges depends on this time frame. The specific details regarding the cancellation charges can be found in the following table:

Refund on Tatkal Ticket

  • No refund will be granted for confirmed Tatkal tickets
  • In the case of Tatkal tickets on the waitlist, a refund of the fare will be granted in accordance with the rule – 1 (Unused WL/RAC ticket)
  • In the case of a party or family tickets issued under Tatkal scheme, if some passengers have confirmed reservations while others are on the waiting list, a full refund of fare (minus the clerkage fee) will be applicable for confirmed passengers as well. This is provided that the entire Tatkal ticket is surrendered for cancellation up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train. Additionally, a full refund will be granted on Tatkal tickets in the event of dislocation of train service, train diversion, Bandh, Rail Roko, or train cancellation due to accidents, breaches, or floods.
