The Sainik Schools have been established since the 1960s with the aim of preparing students for a career in the defence services. These schools follow a rigorous curriculum that includes physical training, leadership development, and academic excellence. The schools are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and provide education up to the 12th standard.
In January 2021, the Indian government announced the establishment of 100 new Sainik Schools across the country. These schools will be set up in partnership with the private sector and will cater to the needs of students who aspire to join the Indian armed forces.
