India relies on nuclear power as its fifth-largest electricity-generating source, following coal, gas, wind, and hydroelectricity. Presently, the country boasts 22 operational nuclear reactors, collectively providing about 6,780 MW of installed capacity. Explore the comprehensive list of operational, under-construction, and planned nuclear power plants in India as of 2024.
The Apsara Research Reactor, located in Mumbai, stands as Asia’s inaugural nuclear reactor. India’s indigenous uranium reserves are limited, necessitating reliance on imported uranium to fuel its nuclear power sector. Russia has emerged as a significant supplier of nuclear fuel to India since the 1990s.
