Krishna’s Story of 16108 Wives

A demon named Narakasura had captured 16,100 unmarried girls in his domain, subjecting them to a life of captivity. Upon defeating Narakasura, Lord Krishna liberated these 16,100 individuals from their enslavement. Grateful for their freedom, the girls approached Lord Krishna and requested his protection through marriage, as society would otherwise shun them due to their past ordeal.

The girls implored Lord Krishna to embrace them, as they believed that no one else would accept them. They expressed that if Krishna declined, they would contemplate suicide. Guided by his unwavering commitment to righteousness, Lord Krishna decided to accept all the women as his wives, ensuring they could lead dignified lives without facing societal ridicule. In an effort to restore their honor and grant them the status of queens, Shri Krishna married them, ultimately leading to him having 16,108 wives.

Despite the exceptional beauty of all the princesses associated with Lord Krishna, his purity and virtue remained unwavering. He was never swayed by physical attraction and refrained from engaging in any improper relationships with these princesses. His unwavering commitment to moral values allowed him to maintain his virtue intact.

Another story concerning Shri Krishna that is often misinterpreted by some is the tale of Shri Krishna’s Raasleela. According to the Bhagwat Geeta, Shri Krishna departed for Mathura at the age of 10 and did not return to Vrindavan.

The stories of the Raasleela all originate from Vrindavan, signifying that Krishna’s age during these events was around 8-9 years. His actions during this time should be characterized as youthful “mischief” rather than inappropriate “eve-teasing.”
