As per an ANI news report, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the entity managing IGI Airport, has received requests from airlines to cancel certain flights in light of the G20 Summit 2023 scheduled for September 9 and 10. It’s important to note that this request doesn’t stem from aircraft parking space limitations, as suggested by some sources, according to the report.

As stated in the report, DIAL released a statement affirming, “We are proud of India’s hosting of the G20 Summit 2023. Reports about flight cancellations are unrelated to aircraft parking. Adequate parking space has already been arranged. Airline decisions to cancel flights could be influenced by traffic constraints due to the G20 summit.

While we acknowledge that around 80 arrivals and departures might be impacted by these cancellations, we remain dedicated to collaborating closely with airlines to mitigate any potential inconvenience for passengers.”

Around 160 flights account for approximately six percent of the airport’s daily capacity. Additionally, as reported by The Economic Times, roughly 1,000 flights might undergo rescheduling or cancellation during this period. The report also mentions that certain airlines have received instructions to relocate and park their aircraft at alternate airports.

With the G20 Summit, September 8 has been designated as a day off in Delhi, and coupled with the holiday for Janmashtami on September 7, travelers are anticipating an extended weekend to get away from the city.

In anticipation of the G20 Summit, the Delhi Police will place tourist police vehicles at 21 key locations throughout the city. These locations encompass railway stations, airport terminals, ISBT, samadhis, bustling markets, and iconic landmarks such as the Red Fort, Akshardham, Qutub Minar, Lotus Temple, Humayun’s Tomb, and more.
