India Pakistan Exchange List of Nuclear Installations: On Monday, India and Pakistan completed the mutual exchange of nuclear installation lists, as mandated by an agreement preventing attacks on nuclear facilities. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) affirmed the adherence to this accord. The exchange took place simultaneously through diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad.

Today, India and Pakistan exchanged their respective lists of nuclear installations and facilities through simultaneous diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad. This exchange falls under the agreement prohibiting attacks on nuclear installations and facilities between both nations,” stated the MEA.

The treaty, signed on December 31, 1988, became active on January 27, 1991. It mandates both nations to annually notify each other about the nuclear sites and facilities included in the agreement by January 1st of every calendar year.

The exchange of the list occurred during a period of tense relations between the two nations, marked by issues surrounding Kashmir and incidents of cross-border terrorism.

“In a statement, the MEA highlighted that this marks the 33rd consecutive exchange of these lists between the two countries, with the inaugural exchange occurring on January 1, 1992,” noted the ministry.

India, Pakistan Exchange List of Prisoners

On the onset of the new year, the Pakistani government handed a list containing details of 231 Indian detainees, comprising 47 civilians and 184 fishermen, to a representative from India’s High Commission in Islamabad as part of the prisoner exchange between India and Pakistan.

The Indian government furnished a list of Pakistani inmates held in Indian penitentiaries to an official from the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. As per the list, there are 418 Pakistani nationals incarcerated in Indian prisons, comprising 337 civilians and 81 fishermen.

“Today, India and Pakistan exchanged the lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen held in their custody, done simultaneously through diplomatic channels in New Delhi and Islamabad.

According to the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access, these lists are exchanged biannually on the 1st of January and 1st of July,” stated the Ministry of External Affairs in an official statement.
