Chief Minister of any state in India is elected through a majority in the state legislative assembly by vote of confidence. Under Article 163 of Indian Constitution, Chief Minister along with other ministers take oath and affirmation before the Governor of that particular state. Each state of India whether it is Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan etc. has its elected CM.

The primary responsibility of the Chief Minister is to represent their state at the national level and work for the welfare of the citizens. CM has the responsibility of implementing welfare schemes including health, education along with maintaining law and order in the society. He also served as Minister in charge of Haveri and Udupi districts. On 28 July 2021, he succeeded B. S. Yediyurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
